What Makes Certificate III in Security Operations Different from Certificate II?

The Certificate III in Security Operations is a course designed for learners who want to advance their education and further their career in the security industry, especially those who wish to gain supervisory and managerial positions. Dependent on the electives offered, successful completion of the course, which is also known as code CPP30411, can either enable participants to apply for an Unarmed and Crowd Control licence, or can be used as a means to progress into various security industry employment fields, including cash in transit, armed guard, bodyguard, as well as employed by companies that require security personnel to carry handcuffs and batons. Although one is licensed to carry such defensive weapons, to be able to carry a firearm requires additional training. For anyone completing the Certificate III to add extra functions to a security licence, the Certificate II must be completed first.  If you are enrolled into a Cert III that includes units for Unarmed and Crowd Control, you will NOT have to complete the Certificate II first.

With that in mind, what, then, makes the Certificate III different from Certificate II?

Certificate II is developed to meet the training prerequisites for one to become a licensed and unarmed security officer and a crowd controller at pubs, clubs, concerts, and sporting events. This is also ideal for anyone who wants to work as a static guard, control room operator, a loss prevention officer working in retail, or a concierge. This course can be the initial steps into a career in the security industry, or can also be a means to get a second job for additional income.

The Certificate III for new guards (ie for licencing purposes), is similar to the above, however also includes units on management and supervisory roles.

The Certificate III for existing guards (ie already hold a security licence, or Certificate II in Security), on the other hand, is a more advanced course in that it creates opportunities for employment within specialist areas of the security industry. By the end of the training, students will acquire critical skills necessary in formulating and delivering an operational plan, managing and supervising a small team for general security operations associated with the protection of individuals, defence of others and self-defence. Due to a more advanced set of skills obtained in the course, this is only recommended for students who already have a certain level of experience in the industry.
