The Certificate III in Security Operations: An Introduction

Developing current skills and furthering existing knowledge in a specific field could mean opening opportunities for a more extensive selection of jobs. Not only that, but it could also suggest getting more significant duties and responsibilities—and, perhaps, even a larger paycheck.

The Certificate III in Security Operations is one such qualification that is designed for attaining a management or supervisory role in the security industry.  These positions can be assigned in various places, including hotels, shopping centres, nightclubs, building sites, hospitals, and others. As part of the training, the course comes with classes on CPR and First Aid, which are mandatory and essential in protecting and saving lives, should emergencies occur.

The units of the course focus on operational procedures for violence de-escalation, advanced communication and defensive practice, Law, and others. The Certificate III’s core units, alongside its respective course codes, are as follows:

  •         CPPSEC3001A: Maintain Workplace Safety In The Security Industry
  •         CPPSEC3002A: Manage Conflict Through Negotiation
  •         CPPSEC3003A: Determine Response To A Security Risk Situation
  •         CPPSEC3005A: Prepare And Present Security Documentation And Reports
  •         CPPSEC3006A: Coordinate A Quality Security Service To Customers

Certificate III is for new guards, and it enables them to apply for the Unarmed and Crowd Control licence without needing to complete the Certificate II in Security Operations. This means that new guards who are currently completing Certificate III do not have to complete Certificate II.

Although there are no entry prerequisites for the course, learners will need to meet a set of qualifications to apply for the Unarmed and Crowd Control Security Licence.

First, applicants must be 18 years old or older.

Second, they must pass an LLN (Language, Literacy, and Numeracy) assessment, which has to be completed before enrolling in the course.

Third, as part of the license application procedure, applicants are required to complete a criminal history inspection.

Fourth, applicants must be Australian citizens, permanent residents, or have the legal and proper permit to work in the security sector in Queensland.

And finally, since there is a considerable amount of writing and reading activities in the course, applicants should have a Level 10 English comprehension, writing, and reading.
