The TAE401196 is the current standard training for the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. The training course is composed of ten competency units that must be completed in twelve months for the student to qualify for course assessment.
Below are the course competency units and the expected skills outcomes of said units.
TAEASS401 Plan assessment activities and processes
Planning is a critical skill that every trainer and assessor should have. The TAEASS401 hones this skill through coursework aimed at developing one’s ability to plan effectively.
TAEASS402 Assess competence
This competency unit is especially crucial for the VET sector, as a good bulk of the work done in the industry involves the assessment of one’s readiness and ability to perform the professionalised skills being trained for.
Most importantly, this core competency unit trains students in identifying the hallmarks of improvement in individuals and groups, as well as determining what needs improvement in either the individual or the group.
TAEASS403 Participate in assessment validation
Similarly to the previous competency unit, the TAEASS403 gives its students the tools they need to be able to participate in assessment validation, which is another critical process for prospective assessors and trainers.
TAEASS502 Design and develop assessment tools
Designing and developing assessment tools is an integral part of the trainer and assessor work. For this reason, the TAE40116 includes the TAEASS502 unit, which equips its students with the skills necessary for active development of assessment tools.
TAEDEL401 Plan, organise, and deliver group-based learning
TAEDEL402 Plan, organise, and facilitate learning in a workplace
The TAEDEL401 and TAEDEL402 units go hand in hand with each other in educating students on how to instruct, train, or otherwise assess groups of individuals, especially young adults and working professionals. These two units equip the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment students with the skills they need to responsibly and effectively handle group-based learning or assessments.
TAEDES401 Design and develop learning programs
TAEDES402 Use training packages and accredited courses to meet client needs
Designing and developing learning programs is an essential part of assessor and trainer work. The TAEDES401 and TAEDES402 educate students on how to create learning programs that are effective and streamlined. In tandem with other core competency units, these units help the prospective trainer or assessor on forming well-rounded programs for all levels of learning ability as needed by their respective industries.
TAELLN411 Address language, literacy, and numeracy (LLN) skills
Individuals have different learning speeds. This dramatically affects an apprentice or trainee’s learning curve, and it’s the responsibility of the trainer or assessor to recognise and address these learning curves in their apprentices or trainees responsibly.
This unit trains TAE40116 students in responsibly addressing different kinds of learning abilities to facilitate practical training.
BSBCMM401A Make a presentation
This unit is focused on developing the skills necessary for students to formulate and create compelling presentations that communicate their ideas in a streamlined way. This skill is essential for assessors, especially as they need to communicate effectively as part of their work.
