Trainers and assessors all over the country are being urged to upgrade to the TAE40116. What is the TAE40116 course?
The TAE40116, a training course that is empowered by the Australian Government Department of Education and Training, is the current mandatory training and certification for any person intending to work or continue working as a trainer or assessor in the country.
Previously, the TAE40110 had sufficed as training certification in the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector. However, because the TAE40116 is the more comprehensive training course between the two, it has been mandated by the Department of Education and Training that all TAE40110 certification holders should upgrade to the TAE40116 for more current training and skills knowledge.
A deadline was set for trainers and assessors to complete their TAE40116 upgrade by April 1st, 2019. Given the many trainers and assessors who have yet to complete their updated training, however, this deadline was extended to July 1st, 2019.
There are options available, of course. For those who choose to stagger their training upgrades, there are partial upgrades available that will allow trainers and assessors to continue their work until the July 1st 2019 deadline. That being said, not all Registered Training Organisations (also known as RTOs) are providing partial upgrades.
For example, Success Training Academy – in partnership with HBTA (RTO #30831) – offers full and partial TAE40116 upgrades, as well as the TAEASS502 training for those who completed the LLN unit with their TAE40110.
For information purposes, here are the common questions asked about the new course training and the corresponding answers.
Is the TAE40116 training course necessary?
It depends on the needs of the student. Are they looking to take on the training for corporate qualifications? If so, then their training is at their discretion.
For trainers and assessors who are already working in the VET sector; however, the TAE40116 is an absolute requirement – they cannot continue working in the VET sector without a current TAE40116 certification. Trainers and assessors who refuse to upgrade will be working with lapsed certifications and will be at risk of loss of current employment without the TAE40116.
As mentioned above, current trainers and assessors have until July 1st, 2019, to complete their upgraded training and certification.
How long does the course training take?
Course students taking up the TAE40116 course have up to twelve months to complete the coursework. Any longer than twelve months will no longer qualify the student for course assessment, and they will have to retake the course.
Ideally, students should complete the course within six months to keep the skills education and knowledge fresh, especially if the student intends to find employment immediately upon completion of the course.
What resources does a student need to complete the course?
A course student should have access to a laptop or desktop computer and a stable internet connection. They do not necessarily have to own their units; public library access will do.
How big are the TAE40116 classes?
Course classes are expected to have eight to twelve students for the ideal delivery of the course lectures and lessons.
Can I upgrade to the TAE40116 if I only have TAA40104 or BSZ40198 certification?
Unfortunately, no. Students who have only have TAA40104 or BSZ40198 certification are required to take full TAE40116 courses to qualify for trainer or assessor work.
