Certificate IV in Training and Assessment: Corporate Training

Getting involved in the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector can lead to a fulfilling career. The VET industry is one of the fastest-growing sectors in Australia, as there’s a continuing need for vocational education and training in the states and territories.

The education offered through VET provides opportunities for communities to grow by developing skills and talents in a standardised and regulated setting. In providing a baseline for vocational training, communities that don’t have extensive access to traditional means of academic education can continue to instil economic growth through skilled professions.

With this in mind, how does one contribute to the VET sector?

One requirement for becoming a trainer or assessor for the VET sector is to be a certified professional in one’s given field. Generally speaking, standardised certifications from peers in one’s respective industries mark the qualifications that a professional should have to be considered an expert in their industry.

Another crucial requirement is the TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.

The Certificate IV is a mandatory training course and certification for trainers and assessors looking to take on a career in the VET sector. With the Certificate IV, trainers and assessors can work in Technical and Further Education (TAFEs, which are public institutions) or Registered Training Organisations (also known as RTOs, which are private). TAFEs and RTOs can be found all over the country, which means that anyone looking for work while holding a Certificate IV won’t be lacking in career prospects.

As well, Certificate IV is an ideal qualification to possess when applying for work in corporate settings. The Certificate IV is practical training, the core competencies of which can be used to an office setting with some adaptation.

For example, one of the competencies of the Certificate IV is designing and developing assessment tools (TAEASS502). The course training educates students on methods that can help in the formulation of assessment tools, as well as the skills needed to distinguish whether or not a particular assessment tool applies to the field that the tool is intended to be applied to.

Another core competency is assessing competence (TAEASS402). Assessors should be able to adequately identify the skills and levels of expertise present in potential applicants. The Certificate IV trains its students in identifying these qualities through intensive exercises and discussions.

These competencies can be learned at the office, as well. For example, there are training companies, like Success Training Academy, that are open to conducting training programs on-site. STA will train a company’s staff in the TAE40116 Certificate IV, both for new students and students who are upgrading from the superseded TAE40110 to the new TAE40116. STA’s in-house training programs can be adapted to suit a company’s needs, proving their flexibility and adaptability.

The Certificate IV training is also accessible through STA’s training locations in Brisbane, Gold Coast, Cairns and Mackay, in partnership with HBTA (RTO #: 30831). Pre-existing schedules for these areas can be referred to through the STA website; bookings for private training sessions can also be made through the RTO’s contact lines.
